Why I Joined AΣA

Brooke Munson, ΘΗ

Upon my arrival at Rogers State University, OK, I already had my heart set on joining Alpha Sigma Alpha. My story differs from many other women in my chapter and across the nation because I knew long before college that I was meant to be a member of this incredible organization. Since my sophomore year of high school, I have admired Alpha Sigma Alpha’s core values of balance, generosity, growth and integrity. These values resonated deeply with me, shaping my desire to be part of a sisterhood that encourages personal development.

In the fall of 2022, I participated in the Continuous Open Bidding (COB) process, and it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with sorority life. The bonds I formed within my chapter were immediate and meaningful, reinforcing that I had made the right choice. Being surrounded by strong, compassionate and driven women who uplift one another was exactly what I had been searching for.

In February 2023, I attended The Academy, now called The Officer Academy. This experience cemented my devotion to Alpha Sigma Alpha. I had the privilege of meeting sisters from across the country, with unique stories and perspectives. Although we may not see each other every day, the connections we share through our love for sisterhood are lifelong. Subsequent events have only strengthened these relationships and deepened my appreciation for the organization.

I have embraced leadership by serving in nearly every executive board position within my chapter. My favorite role, by far, has been serving as chapter president. This position challenged me to grow as a leader, teaching me resilience, problem-solving and the importance of leading with empathy. Though there have been difficult moments, the bonds I share with my sister have made every challenge worthwhile.

Alpha Sigma Alpha has given me so much—friendships, leadership experience and a sense of belonging that will stay with me long after my collegiate years. I am incredibly proud to wear the letters of Alpha Sigma Alpha and to be part of a sisterhood that will last a lifetime.
