Ways to Market your Chapter Besides Social Media

ALEXIS BURTON, ΘZ

So you want to market your chapter, but you don’t know where to begin? Most people assume the best place to do all the marketing is through the use of social media, but there are so many other ways to effectively market and network. We are going to discuss three different ways to market our chapters without the use of social media. Let’s dive into our first way to set ourselves up for successful marketing.

A great marketing technique is setting up a booth or table on campus with your chapter. Being on campus and making yourself known is a great way for not only students to see your chapter, but also to have the opportunity to step up and ask questions or get general information. Chapter members want to make sure they are making an unforgettable experience for those they are meeting with. We can do this by creating a welcoming environment, answering questions for the potential new members (PNM) and even offering information sheets for the PNM so they have information to reflect on. We also want to make sure they leave the table knowing who we are and what we are about. Always be sure to bring sorority merchandise to leave on the table so PNMs have something they can look at. This can look like photos of events and sisterhood, block letters, stuffed animals (D.O.T. the Ladybug for example!) and even a table cloth with our sorority name on it. Marketing on campus is one of the best ways students can meet us.

The second way we can market our chapters is by hosting and participating in events on campus. Hosting events on campus and inviting campus members to come to your event can allow potential new members to see the bonds within the sisterhood that have been created. This can also allow PNMs to see a group of women coming together to support a cause which can be great especially if the PNM also shares the same philanthropic values as the chapter. Participating in events on campus especially supporting other organizations on campus can also be another great way to market your chapter. Not only will other members of campus organizations and even PNMs see your chapter’s efforts, but you can also connect/network with other organizations and PNMs. This is another great way to show off your sisterhood to your campus community and show others why they would want to be a part of that.

Lastly, one of the last ways we can market our chapter is through email communications. Reaching out to potential new members can help market our chapter by building a relationship with that PNM. We can learn about the interests of a PNM through surveys that can be conducted and then take the results of the survey to reach out to the PNM directly. While we are still communicating via the internet, we are not directly using social media as our main platform for communication. We can also use the surveys as a tool for future continuous open bidding recruitment. This is a great way to connect with PNM’s who still want that sorority experience in another way. Each Alpha Sigma Alpha chapter has access to Emma email marketing tools to send out marketing campaigns. There are many ways marketing without social media can be successful to your chapter. It is best you and your chapter find the option that works best for you in order to have a successful experience. The three options listed above may work best for your chapter work hard to stay consistent at marketing. Marketing can be a wonderful tool for every chapter but it’s about knowing what route to take with marketing and staying consistent that can either lead to success or failure. Whether you’re using social media or you’re using non-social media marketing, do what works best for your chapter.
